Title: Rcam Tutorial->timed path
Post by: VegasKill on Sat 03.07.2010 19:41:56
This tutorial introduces into the timed path mode of rcam, or perhaps, gives you a hint how to use this 'autopilot' to make stunning videos from your ut3 demos without major bugs.
As an example for the application field of this method: it is possible to follow bullets. afrodd.gif

This is NOT supposed to be a general beginners tutorial to rcam.
If you are new to rcam, check the readme inside the download.
RypeL Cam download: http://rypelcam.net (http://rypelcam.net)

Rcam tutorial on youtube

Following vctf movies were made with this feature (//frag movies could be beefed up too smiley_x0.gif):

(http://i46.tinypic.com/1zml5s6.gif) Devil: Dark vs Knights Sandstorm: youtube.com/watch?v=NEd8Mo_yA_A
2nd part: youtube.com/watch?v=IxV83qohZ4Y
and 1 video by myself: Dark Knights Kargo: youtube.com/watch?v=WYWMgT8ECkQ

Btw: The number of cam points is limited to 79.

You can do that with UT3 Tweaker. Though not all mixed body parts work out well.  afrodd.gif

Good attempt, you mastered the tutorial's technique.

btwTake care not to exaggerate with the slowmo at the parts where nothing special is going on, the video gets laggy also because of the low animation speed.

You also asked about smooth playback, right?
Smooth framerate=true
min fps 30
max fps 30

(or whatever fps value you intend to record at, but 30 is recommended for yt)

Reason+Answer^^: You "forgot" to write the adress and only put "visit us at http" in the video.

[Bk.Rt] (Fr@g)DEVIL_77: & then, just push J
[Bk.Rt] (Fr@g)DEVIL_77: & wait
[Bk.Rt] (Fr@g)DEVIL_77: when it's time for your action, demo goes on pause ;)
[Bk.Rt] (Fr@g)DEVIL_77: just unpause & let's do the magieeeeeeeeeeeee ;)

lol DarkHunteR  xxxlaugh.gif it remembered me something on Xfire msn012.gif

Just one thing about the timePathMode,
The time between each cam point is very important !
For example:
if you let 3 secondes between each cam point, the camera will move slowly
if you let 0,003 secondes between each cam point, you will see nothing because the camera will move too fast for your eyes  Crazysmile1  xxxlaugh.gif  msn012.gif
and in this case, you don't have to do the Deejay with rypelcam with num1 to 9 (1 & 2 are better ^^) or left or right arrow ...

http://img99.imageshack.us/i/screenshot00006w.jpg/ (http://img99.imageshack.us/i/screenshot00006w.jpg/)

bShowDamage=False

No idea, it is a 'camera effect' as the scorpion boost and the spawning color fades. Maybe it is disabled at low detail mode, but than the video looks bad. I got no solution. wasted2

I think I tried it for the dementia fragmovie, and there were 2 versions of this effect: the low graphics version with a delimited red outlined shape as in 2k4 and the version where the whole screen gets a red overlay with some distortion. I couldn't remove it. :-[

dnc-mafia, what kind of PC (Prehistoric computer^^) have you got???
Maybe choose differents settings on UT3 with low power details etc... ???
Maybe the game is too slow for the camera...

i used Rypelcam V3.05, fraps V3.2.3 (30fps like UT3), video Createur haute definition (micro application) & mspaint.exe ^^ for my last video
ALL DETAILS POWER UP ^^ 1920x1080  ;D

@Devil: I have no idea why its so dark on youtube. When I watch it on my pc everything is bright and fine :P

@mafia: I use Xfire to record. Imho its quite good it records with every resolution you take ingame. And NO you can't rewind =/ (SUCKS). But with timedpath there shouldn't be any problem to record it. Max. 2 Tries.

Prolly because you speed up the demo to the first campoint. If you do that its possible that the timedpath is fucked up and the rypelcam is too fast. If you speed up don't speed up too much or don't skip at all.

Title: Re: Rcam Tutorial->timed path
Post by: Xirios on Thu 29.07.2010 17:40:20
I have same problem too.
For example i have demo action in 3:20 min: i create campoint's path, save this way (F4), open demo again, next pause demo on start, F5, "j", i wait, when action come (or use right button to speed) and... rypelcam pause demo in 3:50 xxxevilmad.gif  Then i open demo again and try. If is bad again, make new campoint's path. To the effect. Or deactivate automatic path ("j" to disable) and use numpad3 and 1-9 keys, when my action come.

Yeah, i got this problem sometimes too  msn004.gif

Before doing your campoints, don't play too much with the right arrow ;) it's more longer but there is less surprises like that ;)

What i do is :
Edit the file UTRypelCam.ini
(in C:\Users\DEVIL afrodd.gif\Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config)
And change this value ;) TimedPathStartTime=287.590942 to 286.790942 (it's an exemple^^) but, it hard to find the right value (Close UT3, change the ini, load UT3 & your demo and wait ZZZzzzZZZzzz  Crazysmile1) ... Good luck  msn012.gif

@Devil: I have no idea why its so dark on youtube. When I watch it on my pc everything is bright and fine :P
You can change the contrast & color on your "TV" & on your graphics card Bloody ;)
I think that your contrast & color on your graphics card are too Dark & your TV too clear no? ;)

long post, just ignore it if you don't care about problems to start an rcam path.
[Engine.DemoRecDriver]
NetServerMaxTickRate=30 <= dnc-mafia, don't tell me that you put 300 here??? lol  msn012.gif
LanServerMaxTickRate=30
These are the animation frames that are written to the demo files. The value should be the same on client and server, and to leave it at the default of 60 is recommended. The lower the tick rate the more your characters will warp. Higher tick rates will increase the cpu load and the amount of data packages sent to the server (if online).

If you want to limit the screen frame rate, do it with the smooth frame rate setting. Use the same value for min & max.

The time in ut3 demos is buggy if you alter the playback speed. :-[
The correct answer comes from devil:
Before doing your campoints, don't play too much with the right arrow ;) it's more longer but there is less surprises like that ;)
After saving the cam points in real time, if you get problems to start the rcam at the right time, leave away the ffw at all and run the demo at realtime, again. Give it a try, if it works correctly, you know you're using a ffw too high for your machine.  ;)

What i do is :
Edit the file UTRypelCam.ini
(in C:\Users\DEVIL afrodd.gif\Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config)
And change this value ;) TimedPathStartTime=287.590942 to 286.790942 (it's an exemple^^)
I think that your contrast & color on your graphics card are too Dark & your TV too clear no? ;)
Not only the 1st cam point has its PCtime. You'd have to add 0,8 seconds to every cam point. :-[

Again too dark. Even in the preview-render window its not so dark. It gets dark as soon as you upload it to youtube...

I love when I get killed by impossible shots trough wall (fury!!), bio I just deflected with shock, invisible core combos, or get stuck on invisible destroyed vehicles. Epic did a smashing job with all the nice bugs. afrodd.gif

@Cr4zyB4st4rd: If you got problems with the time being buggy in demos, I think there is also an other approach you could try. There is an option in the rcam.ini, if I remember right, that swaps the timed path start mode from PCtime to a player coordinates mode. It is actually always logged in the ini who was spectated with rcam. I'm not going to test it / not until Christmas holidays, so I can't confirm this method works better. But it should be worth giving it a try, since any frag @ 15 minutes demo time recovers the time to test it.

Gl and pls tell if it works out. afrodd.gif

TimedPathsPosCheck=true confirmed not to work with Rcam3.05 and ut3 patch2.x. msn004.gif
Timedpaths will depend on the UnrealEngine timing, as long Rypel doesn't fix the broken rcam functions. And he didn't log in for several months on his website, so I guess rcam for UT3 is obsolete. :'(
