i played on the 1st tribes, my 1st rocket jump in a FPS was here ^^
I playerd the 2nd tribes a little...

And i waiting for this one, i hope it will be good, i will test it and, if i like it, I will try  to make a new BKRT team on this game...

PS : I hope that we will see rypelcam on it to, cause it was possible to use it in the old versions of Tribes

Tribes will be a great success, I'm convinced!
Earnings will derive from optional downloadable content -NON GAMEPLAY MODIFYING EXTRAS.
TA itslef will be completely free to play without any drawbacks and therefore attract a lot of players.

PS : I hope that we will see rypelcam on it to, cause it was possible to use it in the old versions of Tribes

Seeing there is some love for the new Tribes game.
I pre-ordered the game and got access to the closed beta.

I got some closed beta keys, if people are interested PM me :))).
If you want to pre-order as well, I got a 30% off coupon(only one though, but if someone else pre-orders they get the same stuff I did).

Beta contains 2 gametypes(CTF and Bunny somethin tongue1) and 3 maps.
Vehicles are hardly used and actually are a disadvantage(I know some people on here will love this).

Download is about 1.5 - 2GB, runs on UE3.

Ok, now we can put everything Tribes related here

Just finished my first 3 CTF matches and I liked it a LOT.

Maps are huge.

The skying part definitely takes some time getting used to.

In many cases movement (skying) is more important than aim.

Getting the flag is easy, surviving afterwards is a different story.

If you're tired of hitscan, there seems to be a lot of projectile based weapons (prediction shots, yay!)

There are 12 classes each with additional "skilltree" of upgrades to unlock.

Classes differ in MOBILITY, DURABILITY, ANTI-ARMOR and RANGE

The game generally seems to have a high skill ceiling which is a nice change compared to most of todays shooters.

Hmm so yeah, If get the chance to play, go for it!!!

I'll just post here what I posed on PtE forum tongue1.
The spoiler contains the downsides to the game and how the game works, since you won't really find an explanation in-game.

Would say there is 3 downsides to this game:
- no serverbrowser(you just select which region like EU and gametype to only press quick match)
- will take a lot of playing in order to unlock classes
- Tutorial is limited to explaining and showing how to skii and use jetpack(there are several other factors in the game that need explaining)

You start out with 2 classes unlocked(soldier and ranger). Each class has their own weapons and stats:

You've got your light armored and fast moving classes, medium armored and medium moving classes and heavily armored and slow moving classes.

Like in COD and BF you level up by playing, by leveling up you unlock XP points that are tied to the class you were playing with.
With these xp points you upgrade skills(have more energy, ...).

Next to skills you also have something called perks, you can only select 2 perks at a time.
These perks give you a little extra like +10 maximum enery, reducing costs of buying stuff in-game, reduce damage done to yourself, ...
I have no idea how to unlock perks because only 2 are unlocked at the start.

Movement in-game is all about skiing, if you check out the vids I posted in the main post you'll see what skiing is :P.
How fast you can go depends on your class, so it's not recommended to go after the flag while you are a class that is heavily armored but is slow.
Next to skiing you have your jetpack to reach places but also to launch yourself off hills to keep your speed up.
If you need to gain some speed fast you can always launch yourself by shooting the ground behind you with an explosive, this will take way about 50-60% of your HP.
You regain your HP after not getting hit for a while, you can always pick up ammo from people you have killed.

Skiing and jetpacking isn't your only mode of transportation, you also have the ability to buy vehicles.
Vehicles don't spawn is several places like in UT3, you buy a vehicle of your choice at a station.
You earn money by doing stuff in-game(killing people, assists, capturing flags, picking up flags, returning flags, ...), when you have enough money you can buy a vehicle.

A grav cycle is a motorcycle where 2 people can sit on(the passenger can be carrying a flag), it's a fast moving vehicle that can shoot grenades but requires a reloading time after shooting one.

A shrike is a vehicle that can fly and fire plasma bolts, after firing 4 bolts it needs to reload. It can seat 2 people(have no idea what the passenger can do).

Last vehicle is called Beowulf and is a tank. One downside to this is that they changed the sensitivity when you are in the tank so your mouse can move as slow as the tank does(not like in UT3 where you can aim at whatever you want but it still has to rotate to where you are aiming). Again it can seat 2 people where the second player takes control of the turret(no influence on the sensitivity).

Surrounding the base you have turrets that defend the base from intruders, these things are sort of hard to dodge because you need to wait till they fire in order to dodge their shots(def don't come too close, cause you can't evade them that way). Turrets can be shot down but they have a lot of HP, it's much easier to infiltrate the base and look for the generator, when you destroy the generator the turrets and inventory station(where you can get ammo) are offline. With your money you can upgrade the generator and turrets.

One little thing to add, they released a patch a couple of days ago that removed the speed cap on skiing. So that is one stat gone tongue1.

Go play Battlefield 3, crashes happen very often on there tongue1.

Tribes hasn't crashed on me yet, I'm just hoping that the negative points I mentioned are just for the beta and will be gone for the full game. I hate using a quick match option instead of a server browser.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the game. You'll always have downsides, they don't bother me not that much as you might think :))).

I have looked into this when assassin[be] offered beta keys.
Unfortunately, Tribes will not be shipped with a demo feature. Further more, it is not yet possible to compile unrealscript for T:A. But it is a planned feature... same as a T:A Rypel Cam! afrodd.gif

You will need to download "Hi-Command" from tribesascend.com. It's a small client through which you can use the beta key and download the game. I'll sedn you the key tomorrow as I'm not @my gaming pc atm.

As already said it doesent seem to have demorecording yet but i just found a quote made on 03.12 confirming that demorecording is comming to TA:

"spectator mode, demo mode, votekick and improved "cheat reporting" features are coming very soon, which will give the community better ways to help weed out cheaters as well. Private servers will have additional self-policing features."

Sounds good so far, thanks for that, RypeL!

The developers really care about the requests of the T:A community. For example, the hitscan weapons and classes were removed or weakened in the latest patches. Stinger noobs, adé afrodd.gif


This is just a rumor and nothing official, but HiRez might not release a uscript compiler to prevent modding T:A.
Why to allow people extending a free game with mutators if they are supposed to pay for dlc? :-[

no hitscan i agree since it has 0,00000000001 air control. but it also means, as i heard from some, they will focus on bullet style, like assault rifle, rather than long-range projectiles, which sucks imo :(

I wanted to give TA a shot the other day, but the patch servers were down and I couldn't even launch an offline match.

Yesterday, I played my first 10 matches with a pretty good first impression.

By earning XP and Tokens, I could upgrade skills and unlock one class, but the more interesting classes (jumper, infiltrator, heavy armored or anything with specialized skills) will take quite long to unlock.

The ski/jetpack system is great, the movement on the ground however is pretty limited (no dodging or relatively quick walking like in ut3).

One thing I absolutely did not like was the desert eagle pistol from the soldier (only played that class): it shoots as fast as the UT3 enforcer with berserk pickup, the magazine size of the stinger and the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Only drawback is the short range.

The opponents won't escape even with the jetpack, if they are not fast enough.


btw Rcam would be great - air-hits with the spinfusor and grenades would look quite entertaining! afrodd.gif

Tried it for a few hours aswell and found it quite nice. I was a huge fan of the Q3 Rocket Launcher and how you had to position your shots in advance, which is quite the same in TA so i like that.

About RCam: Guess we wait till they release a patch for demorecording and then we could try contacting them to see if we could get RCam in somehow even if there is no mod support.

Logged back again, managed to play one full game got disconnected in the middle of the second one when I was whoring the Technician.

Logged back again, connected to a game which was almost finished, got disconnected on the beginning of the next match. This is REALLY discouraging.
I can play any other online game 24/7 w/o a single disconnect, but Tribes...

I played some games too yesterday, but I did not check if someone of the contacts list was online. embarrassed2

Trying to upgrade the ranger class. The assault rifle will take a little to get used to, since the projectiles are just somewhat faster than the UT3 link gun primary. But the little grenade launcher/thumper is pretty effective  ...did a legendary emergency flag cap + return with it. No demo, so it never happened! :)))

I had a break because of the constant disconnects I was getting. Today I played cca 7 games after a month maybe, just to see if anything has changed. Played 2 full games got a disconnect on third one.
The server sometimes (maybe one in a 20 matches) crash on map change.
Everyone goes 'server ab out to crash', 10 seconds later you're back in the main menu.
I did not yet get disconnected from an ongoing game, though.

I get this in about 7 out of 10 games, I get kicked to the login screen midgame. Maybe I;ll try again in a month or so after they release a new version.

A new patch is delivered today:

- 9 instead of 12 classes (the ranger class I was upgrading was removed xxxras.gif)
- 16 new weapons (well, IMO they're mostly just modified)
- it will be possible to unlock alternate weapons with XP
- new menus
- everything that was unlocked until now with Gold/Token/XP has been reset and will be refunded with XP.

The ranger class was not removed, it is the new soldier. + I got disconnected without any reason Crazysmile1

One thing I don't like about the unlockable alternative weapons is that you still can carry only two weapons and only have the option to equip them in the menu.

Same old story after the latest patch. The game freezes for about 3 seconds and then I get kicked out to the main menu. I have to restart the game in order to join a queue for next match.

That is a shame for you two. There still are some issues after this patch also for those who can play TA. My fps drop below 50 at some points with medium details - when repairing a destroyed generator it even begins to stutter with 30 (!) fps. But the general stuttering is gone. QL actually is pretty good. It requires even more skill and "gameknowledge" than the ut series. On the other hand there are sometimes some really annoying and frustrating moments :D

There are more types of armor and pickups for you to time. Any more differences to UT3 duel/tdm?
For me, dm/tdm/duel gametypes are too monotonous. xxxthumbsdown.gif

The movement is different to UT3 as well. Strafing is pretty cool and makes the game much faster. I do miss the "standard" ut dodge but apart from that the Quake Live movement is 'OK'...

Snipers usually just stay where they spawn, in a safe area behind their base with free sight to camp their flag. Snipers don't really fit in the Tribes series and I like them to be a weak class.

The fun part of the sniper is their Drop Jammer: a deployable that is supposed to hide the sniper. But if it is not well hidden, there is a huge red Triangle around the Drop Jammer that reveals the sniper.
Nothing is more satisfying than to zoom in and fire a spinfusor disc over the whole map towards those blurred snipers near the red triangles.


...maxxed out the pathfinder class and played some games yesterday. Love it, how the long range nitrous grenades cause the enemy to drop the flag.


@Bloody: It just got open beta... And you know what? The developers from HiRez care about the ideas from the community. That is rather rare and a good sign for success!

Y U NO like the SENTINEL?

Claymore mine on the flag - anyone who grabs it gets a -700HP hit.
Close enconters? Rape them with the Falcon.
Mid-long range? Pew-Pew with the Phase Rifle. That's a -510HP on full charge to the back of escaping flagcarier.

It takes some time to adjust and upgrade but Sentinel has to be me 2nd favorite class. You might not get the most kills but those you'll get will be essential for the whole team.

I'd go for the raider. His shield pack + the survivalist perk is a tough combination to beat. If you remember Apoc from yesterdays match he was using exactly that combination and he was giving me a hard time removing him from our base. Not sure on which team you were, he could have been your teammate.

Yeah I was playing as a Sentinel, got Sniping and Explosive sprees as well. IMO sniping is pretty hard in this game especially when you're trying to hit someone moving perpendicularly to your line of sight. In such cases ping is my worst enemy. I'd like to get a second opinion from some hitscan UT monster on this. Cuz really sometimes I miss so much it's embarrassing. XD

I played my first matches. And so far I can tell that the skilllevel is OK I guess. My opponents were pretty bad and I got 1st and 2nd place in all matches I've played so far. Unfortunately I can't use the sniper race yet. Can someone tell me what I have to do to use Sentinel?

The generator powers turrets, sensors, deployables and weapon stations. You heal stuff as a technician or with the repair guns (available in your base).

You can unlock the sentinel with XP/gold points in the main menu (or open the 'unlocks available' section at the end of a match).
Unlocking characters doesn't cost that much. The armor, weapon upgrades etc are more expensive. ...think it is like 7000XP (?). With around 1000XP per match and 1200 for the first win in a day you'll have it soon.

Unlocked the Sentinel yesterday, it is a good choise for vast landscapes as the new beta-maps.
...waiting for headshot extra damage. ...and you and martini! =)

Ok I unlocked the sentinel now. But 90% of my shots cause only 10 hp damage?! Soldier and Pathfinder are too ez imho. The weapons are OP but the sniper sucks^^ Maybe I do something wrong?!

Definitely doing it wrong :/





Use the scope/zoom and wait until the sniper is charged.
For no-scope, get the phase sniper rifle like martini.

Pathfinder is the best. Primary weapon is good on midrange and the shotgun just pwns on close range! But I have to admit that I expected more from the game. Much package loss (no damage after full hit, projectiles dissapear), skillllevel isn't that high either so far. But my ping is good and stable! HUGE + for that  wink2.gif

Edit: Yeah Vegas! I figured that out then. Nevertheless 500 damage is still not enough imho... Also the no-extra damage for headshots is quite ridiculous

tbh it's easier to take down a heavy armored guy than others. 1st shot of 400-500 dmg and the rest is pew pew, with some load time. And ofc, the other light armored guys, if not skiing are dead meat lol. Sniper  afrodd.gif

You have to choose the proper enemies. You're fine around your own base or even just by camping on your spawn place (which is a pretty sad fact!). But it makes little to no sense to snipe enemies with full health near the enemy base if there is noone to assist you.
For example, the flag-blocking heavies will take at least 5 fully charged hits - if they hide behind a corner they'll be back with full health in 30 seconds.

In addition that you have to zoom in all the time if you don't have the 100.000 XP phase rifle, I kind of prefer the sentinels secondary nova colt wasted2 or other classes spinfusor weapons which allow you to go into the enemy base, destroy turrets and entertain the generator healers. smiley_x0.gif

Yea true. Sentinel was created to... well, sentinel our own base lol. Hide near base, get credits, spawn inventory station near you, there ya go... BUT it's cool that you don't earn that much XP at the end, so not really usefull to evolve. But with great skills it sure is usefull to the team.

And i can't seem to fit well with the Pathfinder, the spinfusor is hard to ge used to.

CS:GO doesn't have a decent server browser as well, only the function to select gametype and to randomly join a server.

Been a long time since I've played Tribes, time to get into it again :))).

PUG and clan wars in the beta Tribes were organized exclusively for whitelisted accounts.
You have to apply on some partner web sites and join PUG on the fixed time via a console command.

Custom and ranked servers will come with the final release, but IDK if you can join them without ever having spent a dime (VIP status).

You have VIP servers, no idea what's extra about them.
I "accidently" got VIP-status because I thought you had to buy the game, but all I really bought was VIP status, some in-game money and a beta spot. Thought those were pre-orderer bonuses.

Since you've already got Jug and Doombringer.. i'd say Raider. Brute is cool for tight spaces cuz of the spinfusor and specially that fractal grenade. But it is nothing special imo

You're best of taking the squirrel. :)

Brute contra:
- reload speed of the heavy spinfusor
- very slow movement

Brute pro:
- fractal grenade
- deployable

Raider contra:
- the explosion delay of the stickies is difficult to handle
- stickies don't cause a lot of damage (3x650?)

Raider pro: The shield and the grenade launcher (I couldn't unlock it yet) make the Raider better off, IMO.
You should be able to  test new classes in the 'training mode' now.

No! I was using the Raider all the time and failed badly at the beginning. It took me hours to get used to the ARX Buster and the CTF-gamemode but in the end it was ok, i guess. Definitely going for the phase rifle now. OP b*llshit!  xxxlaugh.gif

It's not OP. The flagcappers were just too slow. Sentinel is like the only class that can touch 200+ flagcarriers and even so you have only one shot to try and hit them. Though I agree two good sentinels can really lockdown the entire base area

The crosshair of the phase rifle scope consists of a line of white dots... how convenient, lol.
Better to shoot only from the hip than.

Custom crosshairs and graphic options are supposed to come with the next patch.

There was a patch that improves the gameplay for high-ping players and adds new skins and weapons for the Raider.

While the work on a demo recording feature was confirmed, there is no plan to add mod support. HIREZ wants to build a large community first and then support the game themselves with maps and custom server mods. No good news for a T:A RCam. :-[

Only can confirm this. Moving around is very efficient, but probably a task retained to very few skilled sentinels, or maybe those with unlocked phase rifle.

The lame way to play the sentinel, meaning the opposite of M4rt1ni:

The damage of the BTX1 (default sniper rifle) charges faster if you stand still / don't ski.*HiRez promoting base camping
Furthermore the charged damage increases exponentially over about 4 seconds until the maximum of 500 is reached. 50% charge will only cause about 150 damage - one more reason to stand still and charge faster.

The claymore traps (700 damage each) are best placed around the flag to finish off the light pathfinder classes: Sometimes it is most efficient to just hurry to the inventory station and renew the deployables all the time instead of leaving the base. Llama-style

Rather not, as it looks atm. Since the release of T:A, most game content developers of HiRez are working on Smite, a coming HiRez RPG style game. Only 15 of 53 employees are left for T:A - fixing bugs, creating skinns or weapon packs and probably a demorec system.

But I'm pessimistic about mod support or having HiRez integrating rcam themselves.

Don't know if it works, since there only is weaponbob and this ini entry is not to be found in the 'mydocuments config' but in the T:A installation folder.

If it has no effect, it may be possible to add this ini entry to the config in 'mydocuments'.
