Title: Controls and Input HW
Post by: VegasKill on Wed 17.09.2008 00:02:07
(-_-)

I don't have a shiny mouse, just the scrollwheel shines green/yellow/red according to the dpi...but it has 2 extrabuttons for avril and shock =)

Yeah, thumb buttons 4 direct access on weapons are very usefull. I think about a Belkin Nostromo N52te, cause i cannot use the most of the keys on my Ultron Claw. The power of Deathadder isnt the blinking symbol, its the precision, if u use it. :P My Extrabuttons are AVRIL and vehicle.

dark precision, u use it wize, Luke  ::)
Man, what does an extra vehicle button? Get in and out??

other key mods:
f-> switch to best weapon
shift-> feign death

what keys do you guyz use for moving - w a s d???

Post by: darkredfox on Thu 18.09.2008 10:11:32
Yeah, the second thumb button is 4 go in and out by vehicles.

My usage is not normal, i need q w e s 4 moving. Dont remember, when i start 2 do this. I think, i'm the only 1 who play gamez whit the arrow keyz, cause no1 was able 2 change things like this on a win3.1 or win95.  NoNo1

My weapons choice is this:

But i want this:

Lesser buttons, but better control. And macros. And: It lights blue!  ;)

Maybe u make a new topic from this, Vegas. Controls and Input HW :)

huh, i use usual keyboard to play. Moving with W A S D, and pro gamers do, buy dont have any extrabuttons. ( may i should make some. And i use the mouse Logitech Mx518, and very happy with it :))  As u know, it's a gamer's mouse.

Btw, i really wanna to buy the thing that darkredfox shower a pic of, i think it's very comfortable :))

Post by: darkredfox on Thu 18.09.2008 18:24:41
The Spell is ERGONOMIC  ;D

And one reason 4 a gaming input device is the antighosting. If u press more then 2 buttons on a normal keyboard, it will be not accept all inputs. The Claw and other like Lycosa, Tarantula etc. can take 10 or more keystrokes simultaneously! If u are blessed with a huge talent 4 rapid coordination of ur fingers - np! But otherwises u made a mistake and loose. Yeppa, a bad horseman blame the horse, but since i use my secret weapons (i'm a german, as u know, and we love secret weapons  :D), i can overcome things, wich defeat me before.

I wanna buy a gamepad for me. Which of them do you advice? I need one, that will be comfortable to choose weapons, and that my hand won't get tired while playing. I really wanna buy this one, but written, that it will be available soon, so...when will be this "soon"? :))

Nice thread. So about my config:

Keyboard: Logitech Internet Pro (or somethig like that, nothing special)
Mouse: Logitech MX1000 (it's fucking hard to finish flagrun with depleted batteries cheesy2 )

As a hardcore ut player I have binded almost everything, I can upload my config here if anyone interested. Here are the essentials:

movement: R D F G
use: T
hoverboard: W
jump: SPACE
crouch: Z
hammer: A
shock: E
link: S
stinger: H
flak: MOUSE4
sniper: MOUSE5
avril: Y

console: tilda = ; (what dumbass binded it on F10 by default?)

@radarfox:

I'm very surprised, how many skillers play without some things. Without crosshair, without gaming keyboard. Think, this it, what skills means. :( But: FOXY! :)

@aka_sova:

No, no, don't take this ugly thing! I gave the Z-Board to my brother and played it. Not bad 4 beginning, but ur not a n00b! The probs: Buttons are too big and the ways 2 reach the keys outside the central (move) buttons are too long. U cannot lay ur fingers on it and command it without moving. And then u make mistakes in the most true sense of the word. See at the binds of my foxy brother: On the left side is a gap between D (4right) and A (4 Hammer). Try it on ur keyboard! If u lay ur hand relaxedly on the board, the lil finger will hit the A!  tongue1

I've tried some boards an my Claw is really fine. But i think, with macro and the fuckin awesom 8way cooliehat 4 the left thumb the N52te will wipe this out.  smiley-dead.gif And be prepared: U have to exercise the handling. btw: The handrest is adjustable 4 ur comfort.  cheesy2

Eee, has any1 double binds? U doubleclick and has p.e. another weapon?

I found it in the store that i bought my monitor in. It costs 335 shekels - 75 bucks.

But i have a question - i read in the internet, in system requirements, that i need Windows XP 64 bit, but i have only 32! Will it work on 32 bit system or i suck? :(((

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: darkredfox on Fri 19.09.2008 12:24:30
It's a lil bit expensive. Normal price around 60

ok, i'll buy it on Sunday :)) (I would buy now, but shabat actually started and no one of the shops is working now :( )

And it's not expensive! 75$ is smth like 60

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: aka_sova on Sun 21.09.2008 12:37:27
i usually use scroll to choose weapons, but to choose instantly the needed weapon is cooler.

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: darkredfox on Sun 21.09.2008 12:55:06
Yeah K_G_,

if u have such a perfect micromanagment, u can use normal hardware. Its skill.  ;D

But in fact many playerz have binds and many of them use special hardware, mostly gaming mouses. My problem with the scroll is the lesser precision. If i'm in combat and don't know, which weapons are in my decks, i have to look at the display an check this out. With direct choice i can concentrate me on the gameplay.

Hey aka, I wait 4 the first match with ur new weapon! :)

fuck, fuck, and again...FUCK!  yea, ok, i bought it. But i have some problem...people say i have to change my gamepad in stores, cuz every their instructions didnt help me at all. Briefly, i have an N/A version of firmware. And i cant update it - it gives an error. On their forum i discovored i'm not alone in my oppression - there are a lot of ppl with similar problem. Here (http://www.n52te.com/community/index.php?showtopic=546&st=0&gopid=4059&#entry4059) is the topic. Darkredfox, do ya know, how to solve this problem?

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: darkredfox on Mon 22.09.2008 22:38:09
Thats sucks! I never heard this before, but in fact, this is the first device, which use Razer Synapse technology.  :-[

aka, have u Vista? 32 or 64bit? The only probs in german web is the sucking support of our keyboard layout. I'm so sorry, that i havent try this device before. (-_-) (+_+) (_ _)

I'll search for solution but i'm afraid that ur only possibility ist this: Try 2 deinstall, then install again, load the update and install, and after this replug this mulish fuckin lil thing. Elsewhere u have 2 bring it back.

cy online...

Post by: VegasKill on Tue 23.09.2008 12:39:14
If it wasn't a gaming hardware you could try to download an actual linux boot CD and try to boot from it, since the hardware support for perifericals is pretty good for "Knoppix".

But this way I can only say that the latest driver should work for XP and Vista, both 32 and 64 bit. (http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=f8gfpc200&aid=9266&scid=0&fid=4291&fn=n52te_win_driver_v212.zip (http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=f8gfpc200&aid=9266&scid=0&fid=4291&fn=n52te_win_driver_v212.zip))

The latest firmware is 1.02 (http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=f8gfpc200&aid=10269&scid=0&fid=4266&fn=n52te_win_fw_v1.02_eng.zip (http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=f8gfpc200&aid=10269&scid=0&fid=4266&fn=n52te_win_fw_v1.02_eng.zip))

...there is written that you have to disconnect the device use a "n52te Editor software" for the firmware update.

I presume this solves your problem:

1. Make sure the n52te is disconnected from your PC.
2. The firmware updater will not function without the n52te drivers
installed. If you have not installed the n52te drivers, please do so
BEFORE updating the n52te firmware.
3. After driver installation has finished, make sure to reboot your PC
when prompted. (Important: Your n52te will be reset to its factory
default settings. Any custom configuration currently loaded in the
onboard memory will be erased during the firmware update process.
Make sure your custom configurations are backed up as profiles
before updating the firmware.)
4. Connect your n52te. Please allow some time for Windows to
recognize and initialize the n52te.
5. Run the n52te firmware updater and click

FREAKS!!!!everyone of you :D!!!
i play UT3 with the "arrow keys" the only thing i need is jump(Numpad 0), crouch(strg right) and hoverboard (Numpad1). Weapon scroll = mousewheel :D

the only good thing i good are my mouse (Logitech G5) and my keyboard (G15 old Version cause blue light brings me in a bloodrage :D)

oaaaahhh yeah about my mousepad since 2 years i changed it once per month, cause its only a DINA4 letter ;)
but in white ;)

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: Wojci on Tue 23.09.2008 12:46:53
But i am a little freaky too.

Cause my mouses sensibility is very high!!!
i play UT3 with maximum mousedriver and 2500 by UT3!!!
give it try!!! move a bit and u turn around twice!!! :)

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: VegasKill on Tue 23.09.2008 12:57:34
Well, Wojci, you're a freak too with the DinA4-pad =) ...stolen from the bank's fotocopy paper slot, hehe  :D
Whats your mouse's hardware dpi? I can switch it with for the mouse: as i played with just 600dpi i played with 6400 UT3 dpi settings... also quite fast.
But that was not the best solution, cose it was too much software accelerated, like a cheap mouse. So I unleashed the red scrollwheel light (aka 1600 hardware dpi  ;) ) and now I'm very happy with 2500 UT3 dpi

...if I'd use 2500 mouse dpi I make a 360

Hey aka,

have u a vista-system? 32 or 64bit? I've search 4 a solution, but find noone besides Vegas exactly description.

I dont expected such probs, cause i only plug my clawboard on, windows recognize it as a HID and start 2 play. :(

My Razer runs with 1000dpi and UT3 with 3500. I have 2 change it from low sense (my pad has 45x50cm!) to this cause my new gaming corner hasnt a big desk.  :-\

I have XP 32 bit. Actually i found the problem. It is in my hardware. Cuz after i install the driver Windows tells me, that the new device was found, in spite of the driver installed. And when i manually try to install it from the list of drivers, it tells me, that my hardware isn't compatible with this device, and doesnt wanna to install it. Nice?

Have you tried to let the device disconnected when installing drivers?
...maybe you have to follow the steps indicated on their support site.

...deinstall everything, install the "n52te Editor software", load the drivers within that software and at the end connect your device to the pc. ...else its really a problem

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: aka_sova on Wed 24.09.2008 15:20:42
I've tried to deinstall and install from the beginning smth like 10 times. Even my mom tried (she's n00b, but clicking random she succeeded to instal my headphones while i failed), but nothing helpes. The device was unplugged while was installing drivers, yes. And connected it after it installed drivers.

Vegas, do you have N52te too?

I play with these controls:

WASD= movement
Q = translocator (or hoverboard)
E = best weapons
Space = jump
Ctrl = Get in and out of vehicles

Mouse 1 and 2 for shooting.

Mouse wheel if i want to change weapon.

I use to play a lot of zark or insta with translocator so then i only needed q and e to change weapon but nowadays i'm using the wheel more than before.

U wont get to frag me for at least 1.5 weeks cause i'll go on a trip to Canada tomorrow.

Hi,

I use the keyboard Logitech G15 and the mouse Logitech G5.
Of course I prefer WASD. On my G-Keys I have some say bindings like "Tank down, heal, need a gunner" etc.
I use nearly all buttons of my mouse.
Button 1 and 2 = fire/alt-fire - should be normal^^
Thumb button 1 = feign death - I don't use it much the last time...
Thum button 2 = not used until now, but I will include the Screenshot-funtion.
Mouse wheel left = best weapon (standard: rocket launcher)
Mouse wheel right = avril/redeemer
Mouse wheel pressed = no function because it sucks a little bit on this mouse (I just don't like it).
DPI + = Link gun (effective for quick healing or building nodes).
DPI - = Shock Rifle

No. I'm switching my dpi really often. It depends what gametype I play. In DM its 3200 now. In BTA 2200, vctf 3200 and warfare 2200 or 3200.

Title: Re: Controls and Input HW
Post by: Nightmare85 on Fri 17.04.2009 17:35:09
You could do all these things in game with commands.
You don't need to use these buttons for that.

Quote
You can combine multiple commands as explained above. For example:
Bindings=(Name="nine",Command="GBA_SwitchWeapon9 | FOV 80 | setsensitivity 7.5") Will change to sniper, zoom my FOV and set my sensitivity to 750.
Bindings=(Name="G",Command="GBA_SwitchToBestWeapon | FOV 100 | setsensitivity 15.0") will change to my best weapon, return to widescreen FOV and return my sensitivity to 1500.
http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=648967 (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=648967)
(As you can see, it's not my setting - just an example.)
Simpler: Bindings=(Name="key",Command="setsensitivity x.x")

Ok, you say you switch the dpi for specific game modes.
Do you change the dpi within a match?
If no, think if the weapon change is more important then.

Seriously, I think these mouse buttons can be used more efficiently than for changing the dpi.

Looks like a close call between the G5 & the Mx518.........

Thnx guys.

Just need to see the Mx518 in the flesh tho.

Any thoughts on the Kone? Like the looks & feature's.

Didnt't seem so. In some test about the Kone I've read, they praise the qualitiy, fast reactions and the whole thing at all. As I could test in the market its a nice looking but good working device.

But as I see, I'm the lonely maintainer of my Razor too.  xxxras.gif

Many thanks to Wojci, Atomrolf, Arcane, Chris, Foxy & Nightmare for the helpful comments.

Seems to me the G5 gets some serious votes but the Mx518 is still there when it comes to value for money.

Just need to see one in the flesh.

Doh! decisions, decisions.

I will let you know the outcome.

It worth to buy a really good mouse and waste a bit more money on it, than buying mouse, that is cheaper and not being in favor of it.  msn001.gif

I was gonna get a Mx518 as they are quite popular but started to sway towards the G5.

Still not sure, one is optical whereas the other is laser?

Which one of the two is better?

but thnx for the tip tho.

I have a mx518 too. I can't really say if it's better than a G5 since I haven't tried that, but mx518 seems to be very popular among gamers, so at least it's a safe bet. The sensitivity buttons are nice, but I don't really see how many pros actually change their sens.

It's an Ideazon Merc keyboard. I bought it maybe a year ago for 25€ which was a good price. My old keyboard was a standard keyboard that had lived it's life. The left side gaming keys are really nice, but there are a few gripes. It's missing keys for x and z that are used in some games, and also the space key sometimes gets stuck which definitely isn't a good thing.

My table (and the whole room) is a bit of a mess though, I really should clean...  embarrassed2

My table (and the whole room) is a bit of a mess though, I really should clean...  embarrassed2

You should start with some vacuuming, since this is a thread about input hardware I'll suggest Electrolux. A fine brand of vacuum cleaners, they don't take much space yet are still powerful for some serious vacuuming action (I know what you perverts might be thinking, but this is serious!!)

For taking out garbage, nothing does the job better than a standard plastic bag. Serious UT players prefer BLACK plastic, but it's just a matter of preference and personal taste.

Next, you should check for AwfulUnderwear, playing UT can get pretty intense, but you don't wanna be caught with a brown patch on your pants in the middle of the match - that would be a Humiliating Defeat straight away!

This brings us to the washing machine. Now this is really important. You can tell a good UT player by the washing machine he uses. For example you might think that skill is what makes Mordsspass a good UT player, nah you're completely wrong. The trick is in the washing machine - his is actually so loud I could hear it on TS (I'm not making this up, this happened, ask Mord) Therefore I'd suggest Whirlpool - it's a well respected brand the GUI is rich with options yet simple enough so that you can even let your girlfriend play with it from time to time.

So as you see we are not interested in pictures of your PC case, we are interested in photos of your vacuum cleaner, a package of plastic bags, washing machine and if you are brave enough, your underwear.

Bring it! and show us you are a true UT gamer. msn012.gif

Nice sidepad on the keyboard, I guess its comftable with a light skew to the left (I turn my keyboard as a whole to get this position ;D).

@Double M4rtini: C:\format room does a good job, but that belongs in the software sectionm not here  xxxw00t.gif

Well my vacuum cleaner is a small LG one, does the job ok, though I suck at vacuuming.  xxxras.gif
Unfortunately I don't have a washing machine in the flat, but instead use the ones in the building laundry room. As for my underwear I have several different awful ones but I'll rather not share all my tricks.  msn012.gif

This looks heavily uncomftable, as if it has no grip while pressing the buttons.
2-3 good placed thumb buttons are great, I can tell, but surely not a whole dial field of a phone.

Reminds me to the Simpsons episode with the fatass Homer:
*telephone answering device: 'Probably your fingers are too fat for the buttons on your phone. If this is the case, press all buttons contemporarily.' ;D

Why not? I could use 4 standard mouse buttons...

Apple made a whole touchpad out of their wireless 'magic mouse' (watch presentation on yt) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgiGd53jg2U). One mono-button to click looks like a glossy, empty mouse surface where you can scroll and zoom with finger movements like on the iphone. Sounds like an innovative idea but (unfortunately?) crap for gaming. Apple sure will get no complaints from gamers, so never mind. ;D

30 GB is to small... and the read performance (125 read / 80 write, MB/s) is bad, not only compared to standard hdds, but also to other ssd.

It is generally a bit too early for that technology, but if you want to be an early adopter, go for a model that costs double as much, but gives you double the disk space and performance: OCZSSD2-1AGT60G ~200€, 230 read / 135 write, MB/s.

And you should definitely use it for win7 and your software installations! Click, load, complete!

...I'll stay with my 2 new WD hdd. ^^

I think the Intel x-25 series is the best value for money at the moment. 80GB for about 200€. Then there's cheaper "value" models from kingston and intel, about 60GB for 100+€ but they're much slower. Looks like the market for SSDs is growing very slow, prices just won't drop and people won't buy them at these prices. Give it a year or two and I think most will buy one for their rigs system disk.

Just bought a Samsung F3 1TB hdd, enough space for a while.  msn011.gif HD
