GameSpy shuts down:

Quote
GameSpy, as we know it, began in 1999. Today, 14 years later, it has reached the end of the road.

I'm not really sure how this will affect the UT3 logins, since those are based on GameSpy technology.

This will affect logins, for sure. And the master browser will not work anymore (direct connect should work well).

I don't know which service will be used if UT3 is integrated into Steam, but there is an official response...

Epic (well, a community member) released a official (quite inofficial) hex-modified patch which changes the master server to the in-house master serrver of Epic Games.

You will need to create a new account. No accounts will/can be transfered. All these stats will be lost. There will be no stats tracked with the new master server. Friends will be lost as well.

You can get the patch here:

Well. Epic doesn't even provide a proper patch or a proper solution. They provide a new master server which is good. But the annoucement is not even official. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Why can't they simply use the accounts from gamespy's database? wasted
So than, shall I re-register as hypno, Bloody.Bender or is anyone going to prevent me from doing so? msn011.gif

There is no official word on that case (from Flak). I guess Gamespy's isn't selling/giving-way its database. But I know a solution which would have worked without using the Gamespy's database.

A prepatch. Replacing the login system. Once the login system (based on the old ones) is successful, the login incredentials will be sent to Epic's server. This will allow that active player will keep their account without others using their names.

Well, it's too late. In one word. Epic

Dumped stats of the top 20000 players before the servers go down. Maybe someone finds them intersting, even if they won't update with future games.

I guess Gamespy's isn't selling/giving-way its database.
Maybe they even couldn't do that legally (privacy terms in gaespy's end user agreement).

If you could dump all of it, it would be great (pure and custom, and all the detail stats). I didn't got the time to work on something like that (or setup the scripts properly) because my priority was the →Profile Dump Exporter for the casual players (like me msn012.gif) who wants to keep such things like the friend list etc..

That's one thing they say, because GameSpy own's the implemenation, they cannot provide a stats server.

Datasets of almost 1.12 M accounts is indeed pretty nice. I wonder about the true number of online players these UT3 accounts belong to.

Seems like GameSpy finally stopped its service. To continue playing UT3 online, you'll probably need the patched UT3.exe.
